This summer we’ve been growing beautiful orange, yellow, red and purple carrots and some cute tasty, and sweet chubby carrots. Look out for them in your veg bags soon.

In celebration of all carrots, whatever their size, shape or colour, here’s a poem by Valerie Worth (from All the Small Poems and Fourteen More).

Raw carrots

Raw carrots taste
Cool and hard,
Like some crisp metal.

Horses are
Fond of them,
Crunching up

The red gold
With much wet
Juice and noise

Carrots must taste
To horses
As they do to us.
