What a wonderful summer we’re having down at the nursery. Here’s our latest news update…

On the evening of Friday 2nd September we will be taking over Knightor Winery and Restaurant. The menu will include our produce, freshly picked that morning. Our guys and Ken will be front of house serving and chatting, while Bill and others will be in the kitchen getting everything prepared. Both of course with lots of help from Knightor staff! £30 per person, for more details see here.

Our sixth annual cricket fundraiser will take place on Sunday 4th September at St Austell Cricket Club, when People and Gardens take on the Eden Project. Gates open at 1pm, doors open at 2pm. As always it will be a great day out for all. People and Gardens are currently leading the series 3-2 after five matches. For more information see here.

We have been assisting The Courtyard in Looe with their garden, and helped them to obtain a Taste of the West Gold medal. We’ve been growing fruit, vegetables and herbs in their garden which they use on their menu.

The fruit cage is up and running and we have harvested around 5kg of redcurrants and some gooseberries so far. Raspberries will come later – Jim’s raspberry cane supports have not fallen down yet!

We are in the process of setting up a table top strawberry growing system next year, with the help of Heligan. This year we harvested more than 50kg of strawberries, but these were difficult to harvest and look after as they were grown in pots on the ground. A new system would involve the plants being raised in troughs for easy and safe access, making the working of this more accessible to everybody here, while increasing our yield at the same time.

We have been assisting a Cornwall garden designer by growing items for his recent display at The Gardeners World exhibition at the NEC Birmingham in June, pictured above.

We also have a display opened up at Eden, showcasing our project, showing the produce we grow and giving people information on what we do.

Wishing everyone a happy summer x
